Identified Viewers

Identified Viewers gives you visibility into exactly who is watching your demos and how they’re engaging with your content. Instead of just seeing aggregate analytics, you can track individual viewer sessions and understand their journey through your demos.

What is an Identified Viewer?

An Identified Viewer is someone who has been associated with an email address while viewing your demo. This can happen in several ways:

  1. Lead Capture Forms: When a viewer submits a form within your demo
  2. Email Query Parameter: When you share a demo link with ?email=viewer@example.com
  3. SDK Identification: When you use the HowdyGo SDK to identify users in your app

Once a viewer is identified, HowdyGo tracks their session at three key milestones: whether they viewed the demo, engaged with it, or completed it.

Key Metrics

For each identified viewer, you can see:

  • Impressions: Total number of demo sessions started by this viewer
  • Engagements: Number of sessions where the viewer engaged (progressed past the first step)
  • Completions: Number of sessions where the viewer completed the demo (reached the final step)
  • Unique Demos: How many different demos this viewer has watched
  • Session Timeline: When they first and last viewed your demos

Note: Identified Viewers tracks high-level engagement milestones (viewed, engaged, completed) rather than individual step-by-step progression. For detailed step analytics, use the Analytics dashboard.

Viewing Identified Viewers

You can access the Identified Viewers table from:

  1. Analytics Dashboard: See all identified viewers across your organization
  2. Individual Demo Analytics: Filter to see only viewers for a specific demo

The table supports filtering by:

  • Team: View sessions for demos owned by a specific team
  • Demo: Focus on a single demo’s viewers
  • Date Range: Filter by when sessions occurred

Expanding Session Details

Click on any viewer row to expand and see their individual session history. Each session shows:

  • Demo Name: Which demo they viewed
  • Session Date: When they viewed it
  • Status: Whether they viewed, engaged, or completed the demo
  • Estimated Session Length: How long they spent in the demo

Tip: Use session details to understand which demos resonate most with your prospects. If someone viewed multiple demos, you can see their journey and tailor your follow-up accordingly.

How Viewer Identification Works

HowdyGo uses a session-based tracking system to ensure accurate data:

  1. When a viewer opens a demo, a unique session ID is generated
  2. All events during that viewing (engagement, completion, form submissions) are linked to that session
  3. If the viewer submits a lead capture form or is otherwise identified, the session is associated with their email

This approach ensures that each demo viewing session is tracked accurately, even if a viewer watches the same demo multiple times.

Integrations

Identified viewer data integrates seamlessly with your existing tools:

  • HubSpot: Viewer sessions are synced as timeline activities on contact records
  • Salesforce: Track demo engagement on lead and contact records
  • Webhooks: Receive real-time notifications for viewer events
  • Attio: Sync demo engagement data to your CRM

Best Practices

Maximize Viewer Identification

  1. Add Lead Capture Forms: Include a form step in your demos to capture viewer information
  2. Use Email Parameters: When sending demos via email, append ?email={{contact.email}} to personalize tracking
  3. Integrate with Your CRM: Use integrations to automatically identify known contacts

Analyze Engagement Patterns

  1. Compare Engagement vs Completion: Low completion with high engagement may indicate your demo is too long
  2. Track Repeat Viewers: Multiple sessions from the same viewer indicates strong interest
  3. Review Session Timing: Understand when your demos are being viewed to optimize send times

Follow Up Effectively

  1. Prioritize Completers: Viewers who completed demos are likely ready for a conversation
  2. Re-engage Partial Viewers: Reach out to engaged viewers who didn’t complete to understand blockers
  3. Personalize Outreach: Reference specific demos they viewed in your follow-up
